Skill Evaluation:
Oracle Database:
I have installed and maintained Oracle 8i and 9i on Windows
XP, Windows 2003 Server and Red Hat Linux. I am familiar with optimizing at
both the database and query level. I
have designed databases using Oracle Designer,
ERwin and a simpler tool from Sybase called PowerDesigner. The largest database I designed was 250
tables for the State of CT,
Bureau of Collection Services while working for Linc Systems. Although I am not primarily a DBA, I have
performed several DBA functions on several assignments, and could handle a
junior DBA assignment, particularly on a Windows server.
Oracle PL/SQL:
I have many years of experience in many different
assignments writing PL/SQL scripts and PL/SQL Procedures, Functions and
Packages. I have tuned, enhanced and
corrected these PL/SQL objects in several different assignments. From an architectural viewpoint, I prefer to
code in Packages rather than in Java ( JDBC) C++, or any Visual language. I have called PL/SQL scripts from Unix Shell
scripts in a batch environment, that is primarily what I did in an 18 month
assignment at The Hartford for HIMCO. In
my last assignment at The Hartford, I wrote Oracle Procedures/Packages
that were called by ASP. These Procedures
were primarily for reporting, they returned a cursor that is a report that could be
displayed as an Active Server Page within IE.
These Procedures typically selected from a Materialized View ( which I
also designed ) using Grouping Sets and other sophisticated aggregation.
Oracle Developer:
I have about 2 years of experience at The Hartford working
with Oracle Developer against Oracle 8i and 9i databases.
Unix Shell Scripts:
I have worked with the Korn Shell on two assignments at The
Hartford, at HIMCO and more recently at the assignment that ended in April,
2006. These were primarily on HP
servers, although HIMCO did have one Sun server. My only experience on AIX was at the
Archdiocese of Boston, while working for Linc Systems.
Java:
I have very good JDBC and Java Swing experience. My JSP and Servlet experience is limited,
though I know the theory and have done a simple JSP. I am comfortable with HTML and the tools (
Adobe Dreamweaver ) commonly used to create a web site. I have about 5 years of experience with C++,
prior to learning Java. I am familiar
with creating a Java Stored Procedure in Oracle. I am a Sun Certified Java Programmer. I own the system I designed for Arthur Murray
studios, so I can demo it, and show code.
This system runs against an Oracle 9i database, so I can show code for
Oracle Packages as well. My primary tool
for creating this system was Oracle’s JDeveloper.
Multimedia:
I own a Sony HDR-FX1 video camera, an Apple G5, Final Cut
Studio, and Shake 4. I have recorded and
produced several videos, on DVD. Please
ask for a demo.
